ADCS100 - Integrated ADCS with Reaction Sphere

Our satellite Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) is designed for CubeSats ranging from 1.5U, 2U, 3U, to 6U. A full set of attitude determination/actuator hardware and firmware is embedded. Our subsystem combines six Fine Sun Sensors (FSS100 from Tensor Tech), one Reaction Sphere (RS100 from Tensor Tech), one gyroscope, and one magnetometer to provide a pointing accuracy up to 0.2 deg (3-sigma) when the sun is capturable and 1 deg (3-sigma) when the sun is not capturable. The input of GPS module data is required for attitude determination.

RS100 - Reaction Sphere

One Reaction Sphere unit can achieve the same function as three traditional reaction wheels, but in nearly 1/3 of the volume, cost, weight, and power consumption. Its max. angular momentum and max. torque can be customized for CubeSats ranging from 1.5U, 2U, 3U, to 6U. In terms of rotational dynamics, this motor functions like a variable-speed, single-gimbal Control Moment Gyro (CMG); but is actuated by a spherical motor. Moreover, this motor has three magnetorquers in X, Y, and Z axes equipped. With this device, you can control the orientation of your CubeSat like 3 traditional single-axis reaction wheels and 3three magnetorquers do. However, the weight, size, and power consumption is lower.

FSS100 - Nano Fine
Sun Sensor

Our compact nano Fine Sun Sensor (FSS) features low power consumption and a high update rate. This device senses the direction of sunlight in two vectors and provides pointing knowledge up to 0.1 deg (3-sigma, no albedo). It can also be operated as a coarse sun sensor.

The simulation of a zero-gravity environment on earth for attitude control experiments is sophisticated. Tensor Tech’s solutions as follows:

  •  Spherical Air Bearing Platform to simulate 3 DOF motion in space
  • 3-axis magnetic cage to simulate the earth magnetic field in space
  • Sunlight source and darkroom to simulate sun in space

Our customers can test their satellite attitude control system in “hardware in the loop” with our system.
